BOCA RATON, Fla. –Dontaysha Gobourne has signed her National Letter of Intent with Florida Atlantic University and will be joining the 2020-21 softball team in the fall, announced head coach Joan Joyce.
Gobourne will come to FAU after playing two years for the Santa Fe College Saints. As a two-way player, she saw action in 23 games in the circle in 2020, with 16 starts. The righthander threw 83.2 innings and compiled a 2.68 ERA, while striking out 103 batters. She also batted .322 with seven home runs and 24 RBI. As a freshman, she was named Second Team All-Mid Florida Conference after batting .349 with four home runs and 29 RBI, while pitching to a 2.93 ERA with 75 strikeouts.
The Lake Placid, Florida native said she chose FAU because the school offers a great opportunity.
“FAU has a strong criminal justice program, which is what I plan on majoring in,” said Gobourne. “I look forward to bringing my ability to the team and helping as much as I can. I also chose FAU because it’s closer to home and it will give my family a chance to come to more of my games.”
Coach Joyce’s Take on Gobourne:
“Donnie is a utility player that can help us in the circle or with the bat. She is someone we may use as a starter or closer with above-average speed.”
Gobourne will be joining six others from the state of Florida and one from Delaware in: Raegan Conley, Kaitlyn Cunningham, Jalynn Ford, Zoey Jones, Holley Peluse, Cammeo Presutti, and Breanna Robine.
