GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Orange & Blue Series ended with Blue taking a highly-contested game, 6-5, over Orange early Wednesday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The time of the game was moved up to 10:30 a.m. due to the potential of deteriorating weather conditions for the afternoon cause by Tropical Storm Eta.

Blue jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead over Orange thanks to a pair of timely home runs from Baylee Goddard and Jaimie Hoover.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the 2nd inning, Goddard gave Blue the initial lead, 4-0, with a grand slam over the roof the bullpen in left field. Hoover tacked on two more runs for Blue with a towing two-run home run down the left field line in the 3rd inning.

Goddard’s monster blast earned her the game’s top MVP honors.

However, Orange didn’t back down and started to chip away at the Blue lead over the final three innings of play and was in position to tie the game in their last at-bat.

Hannah Adams started the rally in the 5th inning of play with a leadoff base hit to center field, which was followed by a hard-hit infield single by Avery Goelz and a single to left field from Julia Cottrill.

Cheyenne Lindsey put Orange on the scoreboard and trimmed the lead down to 6-2 in the next at-bat as she drove a ball to wall in left field that scored both Adams and Goelz. Cottrill hustled around the base paths but was thrown out at home after a great relay throw sequence from the Blue team.

Orange continued to rally during their last at-bats of the game and was sparked once again by a leadoff walk from Adams. Avery Goelz again produced a base hit to follow up her teammate and Cottrill loaded the bases once more with a walk of her own.

Sarah Longley cut the lead to 6-3 with an infield groundout to short, while Kali Reis brought the Orange team to within a run with her two-out two-RBI single.

Blue manage to secure the win after Haylee Pittman forced the final batter to fly out to Goddard in foul territory in field to strand the tying runner on base.

In the circle for the Blue team, Rylee Trlicek earned secondary MVP honors for pitching 6.0 complete inning and holding the potent Orange team offense to just a pair of runs.

Offensively, Adams (2-for-3), Avery Goelz (2-for-4) and Kali Reis (2-for-3) turned in multi-hit performances, while Cottrill (1-for-2), Lindsey (1-for-4), Longley (1-for-4), Goddard (1-for-4), Hoover (1-for-3) and Katie Kistler (1-for-3) each tallied a hit.
