Clearwater, FL is about to host some of the top youth softball teams in the region at the PGF Super 48 tournament, running from September 7-8, 2024. With competitive teams across 12U, 14U, and the high school divisions, this event promises to showcase elite talent and set the stage for the fall season.
Here’s a breakdown of what to watch for in each age group:
12U Division
The 12U division is shaping up to be a thrilling battle, with several teams making their fall debuts.
- EB Warriors – Manza (9-2): With only two losses this season—and both to the same team—EB Warriors come into the PGF Super 48 with plenty of momentum. Look for them to continue their winning ways as they aim to start their fall strong.
- SFL Intensity 12U-CAZ: This will be their first action of the fall, but don’t expect them to be rusty. Coach Caz has a reputation for having his teams ready to play, and this squad is sure to come out sharp from the first pitch.
- Lady Bombers Grigg: Another team making its fall debut, the Lady Bombers are somewhat of a mystery, but they’ll be looking to make a statement in Clearwater.
- Mustangs Clendenin 12U: After a stellar summer where they posted 42 wins, the Mustangs are entering their first fall event with high expectations. If their summer form carries over, they’ll be a team to watch.
14U Division
The 14U division features a number of teams that could easily shake things up this weekend with a blend of experience, youth, and plenty of talent.
- Florida Gold 29/30 (Weston): Known for being a solid, well-coached team, Florida Gold’s first action of the fall will show whether they can continue their strong track record.
- Florida Premier Giddens 14U: Previously known as Rock Gold, this team boasts arms, depth, and a wealth of experience. They’re one of the favorites to make a noise in Clearwater and could very well find themselves with a solid record.
- Tampa Mustangs Szabo: This team is coming up from 12U, and despite their youth, they’re scrappy and competitive. Don’t be surprised if they give some of the more experienced teams a real challenge this weekend.
- Clearwater Bullets Farmer 2011: Another 12U team making the leap to 14U, they are well-coached and consistently able to hang with the best. They could surprise some teams over the weekend.
- Team Tampa 2028: Known for “repping their city,” Team Tampa always finds themselves in the thick of competition. Their strong play and team pride make them a team no one can overlook.
- Ohana: One of the toughest outs in any tournament, Ohana consistently brings intensity and will likely cause problems for opponents throughout the weekend. Expect them to be competitive every game they play.
High School Division
In the high school division, teams range from experienced 18U squads to 14U teams looking to prove themselves against older competition.
- Clearwater Bullets 14U Schultheis: Jumping into the high school division, this 14U team has been one of the best for their age and will be looking to prove they belong with the older teams. They’ve shown they can compete, so don’t be surprised if they make a run.
- Fury Platinum Bianco: Coming off a strong summer, this team has the potential to be one of the toughest matchups in the high school division. If they build on their summer performance, they’ll be a tough team to beat.
- Clearwater Bullets Vigue: This team is always in the mix, known for their strong defense and clutch hitting. They consistently find ways to win, so expect them to make some noise over the weekend.
- FL Firecrackers Yeary: One of the more seasoned teams in the high school division, their balance of experience and skill gives them an edge. They’ll likely have the upper hand against younger, less experienced teams.
- Santa Fe Inferno Becker: With some new additions to an already solid team, Santa Fe Inferno is one to watch. Their new pieces could help them surprise the field and make a deep run.
- Unity 16U Devin – Weston: Coming up from South Florida, this well-coached team has some bats that could shake things up. Keep an eye on them as they make their mark in Clearwater.
