Florida Native and JMU junior Alissa Humphrey is off to a fast start in the circle. She has posted a 7-4 record with 107 strikeouts and a 2.88 ERA over 75 innings. She threw a perfect game in an 8-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. That also gave her a fifth no-hitter and the most in school history.
Humphrey is no stranger to success. The Gainsville High graduate was a Two-time FHSSA Miracle Sports Pitcher of the Year in the 7A division and a Three-time Miracle Sports First Team All-State selection. During her first year in college, she won numerous awards, including VaSID Rookie of the Year, NFCA Northeast All-Region First Team, CAA Rookie of the Year, and All-CAA First Team, to name a few. That year she was also a USA U-18 Junior National Team member.
Alissa will play a significant role if the Dukes are going to make a run at the conference title. Conference play is just getting underway, and based on the early part of the season, the Dukes should be in contention come May. It helps that the entire Dukes staff is doing well and, as a group, hold a 3.13 ERA with 160 strikeouts while holding the opposing hitters to a .221 batting average. Next is a two-game mid-week set against George Mason and a three-game series against Georgia Southern this weekend that can be watched on ESPN Plus.
