“Congratulations to Charla on being selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American.” Head Coach Tim Walton said. “This award is a testament to her work ethic and the drive to be good at everything.”
Echols, a native of Newnan, Ga., earned the accolade for the second-consecutive season after a successful season both on the field and in the classroom for the Gators. She was one of 14 student-athletes on the list to be repeat selections.
The talented third baseman boasts a 3.62 GPA in Education Sciences, while she also competed at the highest level on the field with the Gators. She helped lead the Orange & Blue to its’ 11th Women’s College World Series appearance with her .307 batting average, 59 hits and 59 RBI that included nine sacrifice flies, which ties Megan Bush’s single-season record of nine set in 2011.
Echols is also the first Gator in any sport to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American this season.
Overall, Florida softball has earned 25 CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, and during Walton’s tenure at the helm 12 players have earned 22 CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades.
