Bradenton, Fl. – The Manatee Squeeze becomes the sixth team to release its roster for the Florida Gulf Coast League’s (FGCL) 2020 summer season. The Squeeze, under the leadership of head coach, Mario Hernandez, and assistant coach, Carsyn Gordon, have thirteen players from six different D1 conferences including the PAC 12, ACC, Big 10, Conference USA, ASUN and Big South.
“We are so excited about this group of young women that we get to coach this summer,” said Coach Hernandez. “We have girls from all over the country who are eager to compete at a high level.”
“Offensively I think that we have a good mix of speed, power, and experience which will help us when facing the great pitchers in this league. Defensively I love our pitching staff and think we are extremely athletic at every position. All of our girls are very excited, and ready to get back to softball.”
FGCL players report to Florida on June 14 for orientation and will participate in a mini-camp June 15-17. Opening day will be June 18.
“I think that all of the young women who get the opportunity to play in this league have a chance of a lifetime,” continued Coach Hernandez. “I can see other states wanting to start something up like this, but I think this is going to be one of the most premier summer softball leagues out there.”
“This game has grown so much in the past year, and I think this summer league makes it grow even more with the athletes that it features. I’m so happy that I get the opportunity to coach in the inaugural first season of the league, and I love that Carsyn Gordon is joining me this season.”
