JACKSONVILLE – Head coach Marcie Higgs and her staff are excited to announce the addition of Maggie Trgo and Savannah Channell for the 2022 season.

Trgo was a NJCAA All-American second team selection at College of Central Florida before transferring to Western Kentucky. She appeared in 12 games with the Hilltoppers last season. In her second year with CCF, the outfielder was a First Team All-Conference, First Team All-State, First Team All-Region (NFCA) and All-Tournament Team honoree. Trgo helped the Patriots to a 58-11 overall record that included a deep run in the NJCAA Championship. She appeared in 63 games while slugging .438 with 71 hits including 23 for extra bases. The Lithia, Fla., native knocked in 40 RBI with 25 walks and seven stolen bases. As a freshman, she hit .354 and helped her team to a Mid-Florida Conference Championship with a 22-2 conference mark.

“Maggie will be a great addition to our outfield,” said Higgs. “She had a phenomenal career at College of Central Florida, where her team had a successful run in the national tournament. Maggie was a key part of that success and was awarded All-America honors for her accomplishments. We could not be more excited to add her to our roster!”

Returning to the Sunshine State, Channell graduated from Keystone Heights high school before heading to Liberty for her rookie season. She helped Keystone Heights to the 5A State Semifinals and was named the MVP as a senior. She has ties to Jacksonville as she played for the Jacksonville Storm in club softball. While at Liberty, Channell hit .266 with 54 hits including six doubles and four home runs. She earned 20 walks as a sophomore and knocked in 29 RBI. Channell helped the Flames to the ASUN Championship title and a pair of victories in the NCAA Regionals.

“Savannah has already shown the ability to be successful in the ASUN conference,” added Higgs. “I am so happy that she decided that UNF was the place for her.  She will make an immediate impact in our infield and brings the experience of the NCAA post season with her as well. Not only was she named to the All-Freshmen Team, but was also a member of the All-Conference team.”

The transfer duo joins freshman addition Hadlee Reichert who signed in November with the Ospreys. Orginal here…
