ATLANTA – Three North Florida softball greats in Dominica Cocuzza, Navia Penrod and Kaylie Wallace were named to the ASUN Softball All-Decade Team as announced by the league office Tuesday, July 28.
Dominica Cocuzza, North Florida (2016-19)
– Cocuzza earned four All-Conference selections during her career with the Ospreys, including First Team nods in 2017 and 2018. Along with joining the All-ASUN Second Team in 2019, her postseason accolades include the 2016 All-Freshmen Team. In UNF history, Cocuzza ranks in the top 10 in 14 categories.
Navia Penrod, North Florida (2016-19)
– The ASUN’s 2018 and 2019 Scholar-Athlete of the Year while also being named to the All-Academic Team in 2017, Penrod is tied for first in the ASUN record book with 285 career hits. She also ranks fifth in career batting average (.404). The former infielder and two-time All-Tournament Team honoree (2017, 2019) earned three consecutive First Team All-Conference distinctions (2017-19) while being named to the Second Team in 2016. In 2017, she was named to the NFCA All-Region Third team after tallying 87 hits as a sophomore. She ranks first in six career categories for the Ospreys including batting average and hits.
Kaylie Wallace, North Florida (2012-15)
– The Pitcher of the Year in 2013 after leading the ASUN in wins (24) and ERA (1.63), Wallace was the first student-athlete from UNF with three selections to the All-Academic Team. She was selected to the All-Conference Team twice, earning a First Team distinction in 2013. Wallace ranks in the top 10 in 15 UNF career categories including first in appearances (140) and third in total wins (63).
Over the past 10 years, six programs have captured ASUN Championship titles in USC Upstate (4), Lipscomb (2), FGCU (1), Jacksonville (1), Kennesaw State (1) and Stetson (1), while nine student-athletes from six different institutions have landed Player of the Year honors. ASUN squads have picked up 11 wins over the decade at NCAA Regionals with four wins coming in shutout fashion last done by the Bisons in a 14-0 five-inning victory in 2019.USC Upstate led the way with eight student-athletes on the All-Decade Team followed by seven apiece from FGCU and Lipscomb.
To be named to the All-Decade Team an individual must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team; three First Team All-Conference selections, four All-Conference selections, multiple Scholar-Athlete/Player of the Year. Individuals that obtained at least two of the following criteria were also named to the team; Player/Pitcher/Tourney MVP/Freshman/Defensive Player/Scholar-Athlete of the Year, three All-Conference selections, two First Team All-Conference selections.
