DALLAS (Feb. 15, 2021) – After an incredible weekend at the plate, FIU softball’s Venessa Gallegos was named the Conference USA Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The honor is the first of Gallegos’ career, while being the first for the softball program since Jessica Rivera won the weekly award on April 23, 2018.
Gallegos led FIU to a 3-0 weekend with wins over FAU and Winthrop, including a walk-off, three-run homer versus Winthrop to close out her stellar weekend at the plate. Gallegos hit .700 for the weekend, with 10 RBI, two doubles, a home run and two stolen bases.
