The FL PGF Team Camp rolls into Leesburg, Florida from June 28-29, bringing together some of the top fastpitch programs in the region. With a mix of established powers, up-and-coming squads, and a few wildcards, the stage is set for a weekend of high-level softball. Let’s break down each pool and what to keep an eye on.
Pool A
Academy 23 Athletics – RamaSanto enter Leesburg with a 4-4 summer record, a team capable of lighting up the scoreboard when their bats are locked in. They’ve shown flashes of explosiveness but will need consistency to hang with the top of this group.
Florida Gold – Hargrave/Ralstin 18U has been the class of this pool on paper. At 12-1 this summer, they combine a top-tier offense with pitching that’s kept opponents in check. They’re the team to beat in Pool A and will likely set the tone early.
Hustle 16U boasts a 27-12-2 mark, and while they’ve logged a ton of innings this summer, their offense has kept them dangerous. They’ll be looking to slug their way into contention and could give Florida Gold a run for the top spot.
Fillies 16U Taylor/Henderson is sitting at 2-8 so far and will be aiming to take a step forward this weekend. The question is whether they can find enough offense to stay competitive against stronger bats.
Pool A storyline: Will this be a Florida Gold cruise, or can Hustle’s heavy hitters make things interesting at the top?
Pool B
Batbusters Roberts 14U brings a solid 21-11 record and have won five of their last seven. This is a young group playing up, but they’re coming in with momentum and could surprise if their bats stay hot.
Central Florida Ladyhawks are 5-9-1 and searching for rhythm this summer. They’ve been competitive in most games and have the tools to hang around, but they’ll need to string it together at the right time.
Gainesville Gold – Shields stands at 15-16-1 after moving up from 14U. They’ve had decent pitching and flashes of power, but will need a more complete effort to crack the top of this pool.
Parkland Power 18U Kelley is the team everyone will be gunning for. At 12-2, with nine wins in their last ten outings, they’ve looked sharp behind strong pitching and timely hitting.
Pool B storyline: Can the young Batbusters rattle the veterans, or will Parkland Power continue their dominant stretch?
Pool C
Carolina Elite Cheek/Genovese comes in at 13-6, riding reliable pitching and a balanced lineup. They’ll be looking to assert themselves as the team to beat in this group.
Hotshots – Treasure Coast 18U Vargas has stumbled to a 2-7-1 summer mark but has the potential to turn things around. When their bats catch fire, they’re capable of putting up crooked numbers.
Parkland Power 16U Kelley doesn’t bring much data into this weekend, but the program’s reputation speaks for itself. Expect them to compete, even if they’re under the radar.
Team North Florida – Meyer is 1-7-1 but better than their record suggests. They’ve been on the wrong end of close games and will be hungry to flip the script.
Pool C storyline: Will Carolina Elite live up to their billing, or is this the pool where someone breaks out of a slump and shakes up the bracket?
Pool D
Clearwater Bullets Kermit stormed out of the gates this summer at 9-3, winning their first eight. They’ve shown they can handle business but will need to recapture that early spark.
Pinellas Warriors Mulroy sits at 5-4 and has demonstrated the ability to swing the bats well. They’ll be in the mix if their offense keeps clicking.
Santa Fe Inferno Blankenship is 5-5 and owns a win over the Warriors. When the bats are working, they can score in bunches and play spoiler.
Windermere Wildfire O’Brien has struggled to a 2-9 record. They’ve got pop in the lineup but will need to tighten things up defensively to have a shot.
Pool D storyline: Wide open pool alert. The Bullets are the favorite, but this group feels ripe for chaos.
Pool E
Fillies come in at 9-7-1. They’ve been competitive in almost every game they’ve played, leaning on solid pitching and a lineup that can deliver when needed.
Rock Gold 16U Haley has gone 8-5-1 this summer, with tight losses to quality teams. They can swing it and will be a factor in this pool.
Rock Gold CWM 16U brings a 7-11-1 mark. They’ve been able to score but will need to find ways to limit runs if they want to contend.
Santa Fe Inferno Purcell is 4-3, and when they win, they win big. This is a team that can put up runs fast and flip a game in a hurry.
Pool E storyline: Expect a tight race. The Fillies and Rock Gold Haley could be battling for the top spot, but don’t sleep on the Inferno’s ability to crash the party.
Pool F
CF Swat 18U has been impressive at 13-2, powered by strong pitching and an offense that can explode at any time. They’re the team to beat in this group.
Rock Gold Walker 14U has looked sharp at 15-3, with good pitching carrying the load. They may be younger, but they’re capable of pushing for top honors.
Santa Fe Inferno Hooper 14U has played a whopping 62 games already this year. At 31-29-2, they’ve faced top competition and won’t be intimidated. Moving up will be the key challenge.
Team Tampa Vargas 18U sports a 4-5-1 record that doesn’t tell the whole story. They’ve been competitive and could easily make a run with a good start.
Pool F storyline: Can CF Swat maintain their edge, or will one of the younger squads rise up and pull an upset?
Pool G
Central Florida Gold 14U Cruz/Peterson comes in at 25-18, having played a tough schedule and winning three of their last four. They’re battle-tested and ready.
Lady Bombers 14U Picard has a 9-6-1 mark and has notched some impressive wins while playing up. They’re not a team to overlook.
Santa Fe Inferno Humphrey 14U is 20-6 and always up for a fight. They’ve scored wins over older teams and can pile on runs when they get rolling.
SWFL Elite 08 is off to an 8-2-2 start, winning five of their last six. Solid pitching and power at the plate make them a real threat to top this pool.
Pool G storyline: SWFL Elite looks strong, but will Santa Fe’s scrappy squad or a hungry Bombers team spoil the plan?
